The net-like superficial lymphatic malformation (LM) is a newly described entity with distinctive clinical, dermoscopic, and histologic characteristics. Clinical picture consists of red to purplish macules with a finely reticulated pattern of vascular structures. Dermoscopy shows arborizing telangiectatic vessels. Histology is characterized by a vascular proliferation composed of thin-walled vessels, located in the upper dermis, that stains positive with podoplanin (D2-40). We report a new case of LM with an additional clinical feature, hypopigmented areas.Extraction of mandibular third molars (M3M) close to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) has a higher risk of neurological disturbance. This review aims to evaluate the evidence supporting the use of the coronectomy technique compared to complete extraction for such M3Ms. Case studies by a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon are included to illustrate clinical practice.
Three databases (Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed) were searched (November 2020). Additional articles were sought by hand searching the reference list of included articles. All studies published in English comparing outcomes of coronectomy with complete extraction with at least 50 subjects and 6months follow-up were included.
Of the six included studies, five reported a lower rate of IAN disturbance after coronectomy compared with complete extraction. There were no reported cases of lingual nerve disturbance. Other outcomes of coronectomy such as pain, infection, alveolar osteitis were either similar or lower compared to complete extraction. There were high rates of root migration but low rates of exposure and reoperation. Follow-up protocols varied considerably.
There is medium quality evidence to support the option of coronectomy for high risk M3M cases. Further studies to develop follow-up protocols to assist general dental practice is warranted.

This essay compares both discussion and guidelines around triage and the reality of what happened in the United States and in Europe, both in anticipation of and during the first wave of the pandemic. Why did the issue generate so many vivid debates in the United States and so few in most European countries, although the latter were also affected by the rationing of health care resources? Are countries with socialized health care systems better equipped to face the hard choices of triaging? Important lessons in transparency, trust, and accountability for policy-makers can be drawn from this comparison, demonstrating that fostering public involvement and ethical debate remains a critical element for the sustained acceptance of any triage plan.Electronic health record (EHR)-based research allows the capture of large amounts of data, which is necessary in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), where the risk of clinical liver outcomes is generally low. The lack of consensus on which International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes should be used as exposures and outcomes limits comparability and generalizability of results across studies. We aimed to establish consensus among a panel of experts on ICD codes that could become the reference standard and provide guidance around common methodological issues.

After two rounds of revision, a high level of agreement (&gt;67%) was reached on all items considered. We also provide suggestions on how to approach commonly encountered methodological issues and identify areas for future research.

This expert panel consensus statement can help harmonize and improve generalizability of EHR-based NAFLD research.The "law of constant extinction," proposed by Van Valen, states that long and short-lived taxa have equal chances of going extinct. This pattern of age-independent extinction was originally inferred using the fossil record of several different taxa and relied on survivorship curves built from the literal reading of the fossil record. Van Valen's seminal work was mostly done at higher taxonomic levels, hence its prevalence at the species level could not be directly inferred. The surprisingly few subsequent studies done at the species level have challenged the prevalence of age-independent extinction, but those have, for the most part, failed to explicitly incorporate inherent biases of the fossil record. Using a recent Bayesian framework that accounts for several of those biases, including the fact that very short-living lineages might never make to the record itself, we showed that Ruminantia species present age-dependent extinction, where extinction probability decreases with species age. An analysis at the genus level suggested age-independent extinction but further examination suggested that the pattern might be more complex than previously reported by Van Valen. Our results indicate that different taxonomic levels may present different extinction regimes, which could justify the development of new macroevolutionary theory and methods.Candida biofilm is a major cause of denture stomatitis. We aimed to compare the efficacy of low-molecular-weight chitosan solutions against Candida albicans biofilm on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin.
Various types of chitosan were tested for anti-Candida activity by broth dilution. Two types were selected for further testing on 24-hour C.albicans biofilm formed on PMMA specimens. Specimens were randomly distributed among experimental groups, including 0.1% and0.2% acetic acid, 3 and 6mg/mL of oligomer chitosan and 30kDa chitosan solutions, effervescent tablet (Polident), and 0.2% chlorhexidine, and immersed for 5min to 12h. The viability of C. albicans after cleansing were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays. Remaining viability was calculated into percentage relative to respective controls and analyzed using ANOVA with Tukey post-hoc tests. Live/dead fluorescence microscopy was also performed.
